I am a fourth year student at Pennsylvania State University Studying Recreation, Park and Tourism Management. I am hoping to pursue a career in stadium/arena management. From a very young age I assisted my father in volunteering with Special Olympic Tennis. I helped pick up balls and assisted the atheletes where they needed it. This was an extremely fruitful experience and is one of my earliest and most prevelent volunteering experiences.

Blog Post #34/29/2024Reflection of the Career Report AssignmentIn RPTM 101, we were tasked with finding a leisure professional and interviewing them. After interviewing them, we were then tasked with writing a report about the experience as a whole. This assignment was extremely beneficial to my learning as it forced me to leave my comfort zone and cold email someone who I did not know in the slightest. (Let it also be known that we were forced to find possible interviewees that did not live in the Centre County region) I chose Sean Coit of Comcast Spectacor. The interview process was very straightforward, and Mr. Coit was an absolute pleasure to speak with. The company Mr. Coit works at, Comcast Spectacor, is an entertainment company that owns the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The work he does at Comcast Spectacor, including all of his work with the Philadelphia Flyers is absolutely fascinating. Mr. Coit also works with multiple other professional sports teams that also call the Wells Fargo Center home, so there is no shortage of sporting events at Comcast Spectacor. Also, when there is no sporting event happening, the Wells Fargo Center hosts a multitude of internationally known musical artists. The entire interview was a blast and really broadened my horizons when thinking about the inetrworkings of the entertainment industry. This experience also taught me to make myself uncomfortable, as stepping out of my comfort zone and cold emailing Mr. Coit allowed for this entire experience to happen. I plan to take this interview experience and grow from it.

What is Your Definition of Leadership?
My definition of leadership is someone that can make everyone that is being lead feel welcome to be themselves. I believe that uniqueness is one of the greatest things about the human race, you will never find two people that are exactly alike and a leader should harness this to expand their group's ideas and quality of work. This will positively affect the work being done by a group as a diverse set of minds can create a product that is much greater than people who are held by one single thinking standard. This is also a trait of a great leader because people who are allowed to be themselves in a group environment feel more included and therefore feel more welcome. When a group member feels welcome to express themselves free from judgement, you can get so much more out of brainstorming and idea creation. Personally, as someone who has been both a leader who uses this lassiez faire method of leadership and someone who has been a member in such a group, I have seen firsthand of its benefits. I can also say this is true because I have seen the opposite, a leader who demands conformity to operate. This type of leadership in my opinion is rarely beneficial as it makes people feel like a drone or a robot. When people are given the chance to actually express their thoughts and ideas, you not only get a superior result, you also gain a stronger bond as a follower and a leader. With a stronger bond between group members, so much more can be done asd everyone trusts eachother and everyone is willing to be open minded and speak openly with one another.
3/15/2024Where Do I See Myself in Five Years? In five years I see myself working in a sports arena or stadium. I would specifically very much like to work at a venue like the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State or PPG Paints arena in Pittsburgh. Here I would like to be able to be working to make sure all the events that are held at these sites go smoothly and are successful and fun for both the venue and the audience. This is a broad description of a job because I really just want to be involved in the day to day planning and executing of these types of entertainment events. Specifically, I would lean more towards helping manage an arena because I really am interested in musical events too, as I have a background in music. It is one of my dreams to work with generational talents to help put on a show for an audience. This is coupled with my love of sports, so an arena setting would be absolutely perfect for my personal interests. In five years I would also like to have plans to or have already moved out of State College. I love State College, but I have lived here all my life and would like to eventually be able to explore outside of my home and be able to really explore the country and see what other places have to offer. If I do end up staying in State College and starting a professional career here, that is absolutely okay, I just would like to explore around before I settle down to start a family.
